“It is not the smooth seas and the favorable winds that make your best seamen.  It is experience in stormy weather; it is the ocean lashed into a fury by the winds, until the fretted waves roll mountain high . . . It is when the lightning splits the clouds, when the masts are splintered, when the ropes are tangled, and all is confusion that the sailor learns to control his fear and stand unmoved and calm in the midst of the threatening difficulties about him.  Those are the experiences that make good sailors.” B.H. From Bridger’s traumatic injury, our family has learned so much.  We’ve learned that there is more good in this world than bad.  We’ve learned that almost anything can be overcome with some resiliency and hard word.  We’ve learned to love more deeply and appreciate those small and special moments with family and friends.  We’ve learned that everyone can be a hero.

Also, since Bridger’s injury, the family has had so many incredible experiences they can draw upon while sharing their message.  For example, did you know that there is a boxing weight class named after Bridger?  The World Boxing Counsel named Bridger their 2021 “Bravest Man on Earth” at their annual convention in Mexico City, where he was able to meet and make friends with some extraordinary people.  Bridger has also traveled to the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Thailand, and many cities throughout the United States.

Robert, Teila, Bridger, and the family have shared Bridger’s story with students, kindergarten through college, as well as with various professional organizations.  The family has spent hundreds of hours creating their presentations, ensuring the content and message is narrowly tailored to the intended audience.

Also, with over a year invested into the publication of “You Can Be a Hero”, we are excited to supplement our presentations with the messages and values shared in the family’s book.  Community, courage, faith, hard work, family, and determination are some of the important messages we can incorporate.

Teila’s experience as a former high school teacher specializing in early childhood development helps not only with the ”classroom management” of presenting to schools, but a deep understanding of how children learn.

While Robert has taught Sunday school classes to teenagers for many years, he has primarily made his living speaking to adults and professionals.  Robert has presented before federal and state district courts, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Wyoming Supreme Court, and other legal organizations.
